Leadership Claiborne

The Leadership Claiborne program began in 1998 to satisfy Three Star requirements and to promote the following:

  • To improve the community’s leadership stock.
  • To promote community involvement.
  • To bring emerging leaders to the forefront.
  • To facilitate projects that will have a positive impact on the community.
  • To educate area constituency on issues of importance.
  • To develop an ongoing network of community leaders.

Each Leadership Class must initiate and complete a class project. Since it’s inception several class projects have benefited the county and community through the civic and volunteer spirit and sheer determination of class members. The projects serve as a mechanism to learn interactive and organizational skills in dealing with civic and government bodies. These projects include:

    • 1997/1998 – Claiborne County website was created
    • 1998/1999 – Claiborne County Resource Guide and Fact Sheet developed
    • 1999/2000 – Leadership 2000 Scholarship Fund created
    • 2000/2001 – Needham Hollow/Cedar Grove Boat Ramp and parking lot paving, lighting and improvements completed
    • 2001/2002 – Access road to Clairfield initiated dramatically reduced drive time and improved community access for residents
    • 2002/2003 – Youth Leadership Program in area high schools initiated
    • 2003/2004 – Gose Municipal Park Improvements
    • 2004/2005 – Community Attraction Maps and Kiosk
    • 2005/2006 – County Beautification – Adopt-A-Highway Community Participation Project
    • 2006/2007 – Claiborne County Safety Committee Development
    • 2007/2008 – Paws for Cause – Fundraising for Claiborne County Animal Shelter
    • 2008/2009 – Hiking/Biking Trail Partnerships and Map
    • 2009/2010 – High Schools Signage
    • 2010/2011  – Beautification of the County Seat
       

Applications are taken generally during the summer with a deadline of September 1st. The selection process is underway in August and September with the first class beginning in October. Applicants must agree to be available one day per month during business hours for the nine-month program that ends in May.
